Biochemistry (from Greek : ß??? , bios , "life" and Egyptian keme , "earth" [1] ) is the study of the chemical processes in living organisms . It deals with the structure and function of cellular components, such as proteins , carbohydrates , lipids , nucleic acids , and other biomolecules . Chemical biology aims to answer many questions arising from biochemistry by using tools developed within chemical synthesis .

Microbiology is the study of microorganisms , which are unicellular or cell-cluster microscopic organisms . [1] This includes eukaryotes such as fungi and protists , and prokaryotes such as bacteria and certain algae. Viruses , though not strictly classed as living organisms, are also studied. [2] Microbiology is a broad term which includes many branches like virology , mycology , parasitology and others. A person who specializes in the area of microbiology is called a microbiologist

In 2005 the growth of awareness in the science field led to the commencement of B.Sc Biotechnology in Hindustan College of Arts & Science.
Biotechnology is a technology based on biology , especially when used in agriculture , food science , and medicine . The United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity defines biotechnology as: |
 |
|
| "Biotechnology" means any technological application that uses biological systems, living organisms, or derivatives thereof, to make or modify products or processes for specific use." Biotechnology combines disciplines like genetics , molecular biology , biochemistry , embryology and cell biology , which are in turn linked to practical disciplines like chemical engineering , information technology , and robotics . |
Further Studies

M.Sc Applied Microbiology-2000 |
Genetic engineering is an example of how the fields of basic and applied microbiology can overlap. Genetic engineering is primarily considered a field of applied microbiology (that is, the exploitation of microorganisms for a specific product or use).
The field is concerned with the structure, function, and classification of such organisms and with ways of both exploiting and controlling their activities. |

M.Sc Biotechnology-2002 |
The most practical use of biotechnology, which is still present today, is the cultivation of plants to produce food suitable to humans. Biotechnology has applications in four major industrial areas, including health care (medical), crop production and agriculture, non food (industrial) uses of crops and other products (e.g. biodegradable plastics , vegetable oil , biofuels ), and environmental uses.
|
 |
For example, one application of biotechnology is the directed use of organisms for the manufacture of organic products (examples include beer and milk products). Another example is using naturally present bacteria by the mining industry in bioleaching . Biotechnology is also used to recycle, treat waste, clean up sites contaminated by industrial activities ( bioremediation ), and also to produce biological weapons .

B.Sc Computer Science-1995 |
Computer science (or computing science ) is the study of the theoretical foundations of information and computation and their implementation and application in computer systems . [1] [2] [3] Computer science has many sub-fields; some emphasize the computation of specific results (such as computer graphics ),while others relate to properties of computational problems (such as computational complexity theory ). |
 |
Still others focus on the challenges in implementing computations. For example, programming language theory studies approaches to describing computations, while computer programming applies specific programming languages to solve specific computational problems. A further subfield, human-computer interaction , focuses on the challenges in making computers and computations useful, usable and universally accessible to people .

M.Sc Computer Science-1999 |
In 1999 the course was started. Computer science searches for concepts and formal proofs to explain and describe computational systems of interest. As with all sciences, these theories can then be utilised to synthesize practical engineering applications, which in turn may suggest new systems to be studied and analysed.
|
 |
These programs often feature the theory of computation , analysis of algorithms , formal methods , concurrency theory , databases , computer graphics and systems analysis , among others. They typically also teach computer programming , but treat it as a vessel for the support of other fields of computer science rather than a central focus of high-level study.
Further Studies
The students can pursue Doctoral Programme in Computer Science
Career Prospects
They can be employed as Software Engineers in Software Firms and in MNC'S and in Banks as Network Administrators and can work as Lecturers in Information Technology/Computer Science. |
